Maybe you are a member of the Ramblers - there are local groups, have a look at https://www.ramblers.org.uk I'm sure you will find a walk that looks interesting and you'll benefit from local knowledge too.

There are numerous other walks that don't need a car, but if you travel by car, motorbike or cycle a little further you will find fantastic views at Teifi Pools and Reservoir, the vast Haford Estate near to Pontrhydygroes (breathtaking walks around a restored 18C landscape with waterfalls and magical views, especially when the bluebells are in flower), or you could tackle the walk around the world famous  Devils Bridge which incorporates Jacob's Ladder (Not for those with a poor head for heights, I can vouch for that!) the landscape has dramatic waterfalls, and plenty of view points for stunning photographs of the endless tree covered valleys.

Just a short drive from the Hotel is Cors Caron, a vast nature reserve and home to many species of birds including Curlews, Merlins and Hen Harriers and of course our increasingly abundant Red Kites (Barcud Coch), who will be seen daily soaring overhead at the Hotel.  If you have time for a visit to Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Centre you can see the spectacle of Kite feeding when over 200 birds fly in daily for their feed.  The centre boasts a fantastic cafe which overlooks the lake and feeding site, all nestled at the base of the mountains which are full of walking, running and mountain biking trails. (for both sites see https://www.naturalresources.wales) Cors Caron is a short drive from Tregaron which is also home to a Red Kite Centre and Museum

  Harbour (with Ridiculously Rich cafe)

The Royal Pier is a pleasure pier, with games and fun activities for all ages and a really great restaurant upstairs https://www.royalpier.co.uk

Machynlleth is a lovely place for a day trip, full of history and character and lots to do

Lampeter has a great choice of cafes, a wonderful wholefood shop (Mulberry Tree) and a textile museum

Aberaeron on the coast is a firm favourite - and a tourist hotspot due to a charming harbour, photogenic properties, great cafes and hostelries plus shops galore! (a favourite, for the ladies is Parsley & Thyme) and not forgetting The Hive honey ice cream!

New Quay is equally gorgeous and on the coast - with the best choices in ice cream for miles! its popular...be prepared to drive very slowly to find somewhere to park, but we managed it, and its worth it!

Carmarthen, just over an hour from the Black Lion, but worth the trip. So many lovely cafes/restaurants, amazing array of shops, lots of little ancient passageways (well it is the most ancient town in Wales) and a castle right in the centre. Gorgeous

Cycling has been very popular in the area  for many years, with the Black Lion previously hosting the Cyclists Touring Club; their plaque is still on the front of the building since approximately 1900!  For road biking, the Lon Cambria (Nat cycle Route 81) and Lon Teifi (route 82) routes both pass through the Pumlumon (highest point of the Cambrian Mountains) area taking in stunning scenery .  The Rheidol trail runs through the Rheidol Valley, home to the famous steam railway.

Please note, we do have secure bike lock up and a drying room available.  Kevin is a keen cyclist and is happy to share with you his favourite routes and could, by prior arrangement, take you out for a trail through the most stunning countryside, just get in touch in advance for details.

Do you like fishing? Then don't forget to pack your rod, as you can get a day/weekly permit from https://www.tregaronangling.com and enjoy the fishing at the Teifi Pools (3 for fly fishing and 1 multi-purpose) along with the River Teifi.  There is also fishing at   Dinas Reservoir and Clywedog Plantation part of https://www.aber-angling.co.uk  who have 9 lakes for fishing with tourist permits available,  plus fishing on the Rheidol and Ystwyth rivers, and of course there is sea fishing, especially at nearby New Quay (which is well worth a day out, it is beautiful!)

If horse riding is more your thing you won't be disappointed! Close by is the Rheidol Riding Centre offering lessons, trekking/hacking and in the most wonderful setting. (https://www.rheidol-riding-centre.co.uk)  Some pony trek routes go past the front door of the Black Lion, quite a sight to see, we love it!

For the motor sport enthusiast we have https://www.slipandgripautomotive.co.uk on our doorstep offering occasional rally sprints, public and private rally testing and track days on a nearby mountain.  Olivia is practicing already to take part when she is a little bit older!

Being a bit hilly here you won't be surprised to discover that there is the Mid Wales Orienteering Club (https://www.mid-wales-orienteers.org.uk) they have plenty of events locally, have a look!  And you might be able to take your dog along....  This walk is on our doorstep and includes a river that Taffy always makes a beeline for - we have dog towels here if your pooch is also very keen on swimming

Even though we have mountains, we have golf courses too! There are plenty to choose from, have a look at https://www.discoverceredigion.wales and be very pleasantly surprised - just don't forget to pack your clubs!  Otherwise, you can play crazy golf on our lawn! (If Taffy will let you play with his ball!) we have a few ball games here for the children too.
